the ignatian examen

The Examen is a way to slow down reflect on your day, and listen to God. You can read more about it here, but the 5 basic steps are:

  1. Ask God for light (to reveal to you what you need to recall about the day)
  2. Give thanks
  3. Review the day
  4. Face your shortcomings
  5. Look forward to the day to come

This practice can take as much or as little time as you want to put into it. It can be done in the middle of the day, or just before bed.

If you are interested in having a guided examen experience, I’ve recorded some of the prompts we’ve used at youth group with 2 minutes of silence in between, which you can listen to here.

(We don’t have music in the background, but you can play your own soundtrack if you want.)
