All Souls runs on prayer

When I lived in the Boston area, Dunkin’ Donuts was ubiquitous. We have a fair number of those around here, so we are probably familiar with their slogan “America runs on Dunkin’.” Instead of caffeine and sugar, I’d like to think that “All Souls runs on Prayer.”

Prayer is one of our diocese’s core values. Prayer is one of the main themes of our current strategic plan. Prayer reminds us that we aren’t running this parish on our own, but it is only by God’s grace that anything good happens at All Souls. Prayer is a way for us to work for the parish at the deepest spiritual level.

Every Sunday morning, Fr Rob, David Szomor, myself, and often a few others gather for Morning Prayer before our services of Holy Communion. We bring before God our desires for his presence during our worship, we ask for God’s blessing on all those serving and receiving that Lord’s Day, we pray for the needs of the world and for the needs of our own community.

I would like to invite you to join us in this deep spiritual work. During the summer we meet at 9a in the Nave for this simple service of hearing God’s word and interceding for our needs. The clergy lead, you can just follow along in the prayer book (no prior experience is necessary!). The time lasts about 35-45 minutes, ending with enough time for you to jump into serving in some role (usher, reader, nursery, etc.) or to spend a few minutes in quiet before our Communion service begins.
