Around All Souls

We want to be sure that you know how you can be part of our church community in this season. Just because we are apart doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of All Souls.

In this season of being apart and not going as many places, some prepositions have become a little confusing:

What does it mean when an event is occurring “at All Souls?”

When we say we’re “gathering with the Souls,” what does that look like?

What does it even mean for a person to say they “go to All Souls,” or they “attend” All Souls?

We want to be sure that you know how you can be part of our church community in this season. Just because we are apart doesn’t mean you can’t be a part of All Souls.

One of the best ways to learn is to check out our Coronatide Dashboard, which has become our home page in this season. In addition, peruse the ideas below.

Our Core Ministries

These are the essential things happening in this season. We hope you are joining at least one of these gatherings each week:

  • Sunday Worship (9a Livestream + 11a Outdoor Service): information about worship each week can be found in the Sunday Post. Here is this week’s.
  • Catechesis in Coronatide: each week this fall, we have offered a video presentation, along with discussion questions and habits to try. Check out the resources, and keep an eye out for more Catechesis in the coming months.
  • Zao is our youth group, for grades 6-12. There is a weekly email with information about COVID-safe, fun activities, Bible Study, and small groups. For more information and to be added to the email list, please contact Fr. Andrew Unger.
  • Family Children’s Worship: for families with children, we welcome parents and kids to All Souls Backyard during the Outdoor Service. We sing together, hear one of God’s stories, receive a blessing, and return to the service for Communion. For questions, or to receive the weekly Children’s Ministries’ email, please contact Pastor for Children, Jennifer Merck.

I’d like to connect in this season.

This can be a challenging season for connecting with our church community. You might appreciate this video of our Extra-Ordinary Time Banner Dedication service. You might also be interested in these opportunities:

  • House Groups: the Christian journey is a shared experience with others who love God and desire to grow as disciples of Christ. In fact, the umbrella of this ministry at our church is called Souls Together! Our House Groups typically meet 2x/month. In this season, groups are either meeting safely outside or on Zoom, until the current state guidelines change for inside meetings. If you’d like to join a group, check out the House Group page, which has a registration link at the bottom. Questions? Please contact Deacon Mary Baker.
  • Banner Stitching: small groups of Souls are gathering in the Undercroft to continue stitching our Banner. This can be a great time of fellowship. Stitching times are on the church calendar, but you can also contact the Stitching Crew to find a time that works for you, your family, or a group of friends.
  • Morning Prayer: a group of Souls meet every Wednesday for Morning Prayer on Zoom. For more information, please contact Deacon Mary Baker.
  • Listening Groups: if you are interested in joining with other Souls to listen to one another and process this challenging journey of the past 8 months, please email listeninggroups@allsouls.com to express interest in joining a group.
  • Hands for Souls: our handwork group plans to begin gathering via Zoom after Thanksgiving. Look for more information in Friday’s enews. Please contact Laurel Dalrymple for information.
  • Zao Small Groups: contact Fr. Andrew Unger for information about helping a 6th-12th grader connect with a small group or other youth group activities.
  • Forest Treehouse: once a month, our 3rd-5th graders are gathering for a Forest Preserve hike. For more information, please contact Pastor for Children, Jennifer Merck.

I need some assistance in this season.

Because we are not gathering in our typical ways, it might be challenging to know how to get help if you need it. Here are some great ways to reach out:

  • Pastoral Care: if you would like to talk with Clergy or receive a visit from the member of the Clergy, please feel free to reach out individually. Our email addresses are in this format (first.last@allsouls.com). Or email the Clergy and someone will get back to you soon.
  • Care Ministries: if you need some practical assistance, including grocery shopping or meals, please contact Deacon Joy Unger to request assistance.
  • Prayer Request: if you have a prayer request in this season, please contact prayer@allsouls.com.

I’d like to help in this season.

When we’re not meeting together as we typically do, it can be challenging to know how you might serve the Souls and our broader community. Here are some ideas:
